Aponogeton Propagation

I have a mystery Aponogeton from some Wal-Mart Wonder Bulbs. It's growing great and has started sending up shoots that are growing leaves and roots. I haven't been able to find any information on propagating Aponogetons from daughter plants but it sure looks like I could. Will the plant die if I try to seperate it?

try burying the stem while still attached to the main plant or put weights on it,it looks like it might send up another plant...give it a try,it shouldn't hurt the plant any

I`ve been racking my brain trying to recall my apons and how they grew (back in 2001 when I had some very enthusiastic ones!) I mostly got plantlets from spent flowers that formed little seed things that detached and grew. I *think* some may have grown roots before detaching, so maybe that`s what happened here?

In the past, mine have become large enough that the rhizome split of its own accord. Alternatively, you could probably cut it.

the ones i got from wally world send out runners. i just wait until the runners form a few leaves and roots, then cut them off and pull the stem from the mother plant. the ones in the pic look almost ready to be cut.

This one isn't really a runner, at least not like my val sends out runners, it's a vertical stem that formed a ball and has sprouted several stems from the ball. If I can break it off and plant the ball like a rhizome that would be great. I guess I don't have much to loose if the plantlet doesn't make it, this plant puts out a new 8" leaf every 2-3 days.
