Smile buying fish online

Now i know this has been asked before, but i was unable to find the information i needed when i searched. So, i cannot find a sparkling gourami in any lfs so i want to purchase one online. Ive looked a few websites and im wondering which one you guys would suggest for reliability cheapness and speed. Also how safe is it to have a fish delivered through the mail? ive never done this before and i have concerns if the mailman drops it off and im not around. How long can the fish survive in the mail? thank you!

I have ordered from liveaquaria.com once before with no problems. They were shipped in a styrofoam box. Since when I bought it was warm, I made sure to be there for delivery.

Here is their shipping info page

I ordered fish through oddballfish.com with no problems at all. I just looked, and they don't list what you're looking for, though.

I've ordered fish from a seller on aquabid. The seller was only a 2-3 hour drive from my house, so I just used priority shipping and they got to me next day, no DOA's.

I would defaintly do it again if it weren't for the high shipping costs.

No matter where you purchase from online, the shipping is going to be $30-$35 because the fish must be sent overnight. So although the fish are cheap, the shipping will always kill you. You could try calling local fish stores and seeing if they can special order them for you. If Pacific Reef had one in the past, that should mean they know a supplier and can order them.

That's why you should buy a lot to make the $35 shipping worth while.

i went to pacific reef and asked the owner personally if he had any sparkling gouramis and he said no and i dont think he knew what that meant, does he call them by a different name? dwarf croaking gouramis? pygmy gouramis?

I had the same problem, they stock a lot of loaches but when I asked if they had any dwarf loaches, they had no idea what I was talking about. I would find a webpage that has a picture and lists all of their alternative names, print it out and show it to them. Fish stores have the tendency to use different names for the same fish.

Actually, my shipping from oddballfish was $20. The fish were shipped 2 day and arrived in perfect condition.
