So what do I have??

I'm setting up my 125 for plants and need to know what I have a low or high tech set up.
I'll be running 2 65w 6700/10K, 2- t5 ho 6700, and 2- t5 ho 10k. Will be adding a 35 gal. wet dry in the next couple days. I have turface at a depth of around 1.5" to 2" under a layer of fine garavel for a total of about 3" - 4" depth.This is the bio load as it sits now
1- Goyder River Rainbow 5.5"
1- Bosemani Rainbow 4"
1- Irian Rainbow 3.5"
1- Praecox 2.75"
1- Juli Cory
1- Royal Plec 5"
2- Clown Loaches 4"
2- Gold Algae Eaters
5- Rummy Nose
15- Longfin Leopard Danios

You list the watts on the first two bulbs but not the next four. what is your total watts? Co2 or no Co2.

The t5 ho's are 54 watts and not running co2

you have green water/algae then
with no co2 and that amount of lights its a sure thing you can grow algae like mad. buy co2 and you will be considered high tech

2.8 wpg with T5HO. I would have to agree you need Co2, unless you don't run all the lights all the time. You could run one set for a burst period if you want to stay low tech. Otherwise I would say you are at high tech level.

As a side rainbows like to be in schools. With a tank that size I would add more to make a school.

I'm planning on more rainbows thats just whats left from a minor wipe out. And the burst idea is what I am planning on as I do with my reef set up. Maybe in the future I'll co2 the system but thats down the road.

That should work just fine and when you are ready for Co2 you already have the lighting on hand. It is nice to have multiple lights or switches to give you the options to adjust as needed.

One of these days I will have room for a larger tank with a bigger school of rainbows. Definitely on of my favorite fish.
