LED bubble wand

I have been looking at a few of these, because they would look great at night. But what is the purpose of one (other than looks), and why, or why not should I have one in my tank. I am going low-tech, not running CO2. Just about 20 gallons planted.

Their purpose is oxygenation/circulation and looks. I agree, though, that they are a bit tacky.

I had one on my 29g for awhile, I liked the look the bubbles gave in the moonlight. My only issue with it was the amount of cables running into the tank. At some point you will find the back glass is rather cluttered with stuff. So I removed the air bubbler and hot glue gunned the blue leds upside down to the back of my aquaticlife light bar lol, if you don't have surface scum, and have proper water circulation a bubble wand isn't really needed and it becomes more of a show/novelty item at that point.

OK, the only surface movement I get is from my filter, and it doesn't ripple the surface that much, so I figured I may need an air stone.
