Almost Gassed My Fish

I brought home 3 new cardinals to go with the 10 or so I already have today. I acclimated them as usual and added them to the tank. That's right, no QT but that's another subject. Almost as soon as they were in the tank they were at the surface gasping so I did an immediate 50% water change and they stopped gasping, regained their color and started hanging out with the other guys. All of the existing fish have been fine and showed no signs of distress. Any time I've added other fish I've not had this happen.

This is apparently due to having upped my CO2 lately and moved my photoperiod back 2 hours but not changed the time the CO2 kicks on. So, I'm thinking both those things had a little too much gas in the tank for the new guys. I'm lowering my CO2 a little and going to add the two hours back to the photoperiod which I had planned to do anyway just not as soon.

you should start some medical treatment, such as qt your new guys for a couple of days, then put back your new guys back into the original tank. and try not to lower your "gas" in your tank, otherwise your old guys will have some stress adapting to the new tank dosing, then adapting to the old dosing, try not to do that. Hopefully that'll work,

There is absolutely no need to medicate these fish. There is no medical treatment for this other than less co2 and more oxygen.

Also, ph values associated with co2 should not effect fish enough to stress them with a change.
