10g Trouble shoot

Hello all! I'm curious what you think about my setup and any changes I should make.

Specs:

Standard 10g

Eco Complete
Eheim 2211
Planted plus raised @ 18'' above substrate
Co2 injected (PB setup)/ DIY inline reactor (stable and drop checker reading light green/yellow)- observed plants pearling toward end of light cycle

8hr photo period on timer
Flora: See picture for quantity/type
Fauna: 6 Neon Tetras 1 White Cloud Minnow

Ferts- I have the standard EI package from GLA. I have not been dosing macros. Only Plantex CSM +B (as per online calculator).

Root tabs (3) spread throughout the Crypts

Nitrites are reading b/w 5-10 ppm

I'm noticing what looks to be very fine hair algae on substrate and the Crypts (there is flow in the area and the light should not be too strong @ 18'').

What am I doing wrong?

Thank you and cheers,

Kory

I am no expert but I think by not dosing the macros you are letting the algae out compete the plants. You don't mention water changes either.

Just curious, why are you not dosing the macros?

You need to dose macros they are the three or four key ferts plants need your going to essentially imbalance your tank if you only dose micros long enough.

Dose macros M W F
Dose micros T Th Sat

You should be good if you do that. Also 25 percent water change on Sunday should be good because you've got decent filtration on a 10 gallon

Sorry! Yes 50% water change weekly.

So far as Macros- is the light intensity enough to demand EI dosing regime thought the 7 fish would provide enough? The planted plus is 18'' from the substrate. Thank you for the quick responses.

If the plants are growing (assuming NPK dosing), macros are needed. Less than the full IE, though - see Tom Barr's site. Adjust the light height if you want.

+1 for Django's response, if the plants are growing you need to dose macros, the plants may be good for a little bit but you'll soon notice deficiencies in the plants (pinholes, yellowing, etc.)

Follow Tom Barr or a member on here sells pretty good liquid ferts (niclog i believe) super simple to dose just follow the directions.

Should I dose according the low tech/light on the calculator or full blow EI. Again, the planted plus is 18'' from the substrate and my Co2 is on a couple hours before lights. Hair algae is only on the crypts in front and on the substrate. It is very fine and hardly noticeable until you get right up on it. I want to mediate the issue before it is out of control.
