Erythromycin kills what?

As the post states, what could I possibility kill by using erythromycin?

What I got in my tank-

- Echinodorus 'Kleiner Bär'
- Cryptocoryne Wendtii red
- Rotala Indica
- Hygrophila difformis
- HC
- Micro Sword
- 25 Bloodfin tetras (Aphyocharax Anisitsi)
- 3 Cockatoo Dwarf Cichlids (Apistogramma Cacatuoides)
- 12 Amano Shrimp (Cardinia Japonica)
- 1 Butterfly Pleco L-168 (Dekeyseriabrachyura )

I got a bad case of BGA and I've had it before and used this and it worked great.

Thanks

Loren

Depends on your tank size. If your bioload is high, things can get iffy because some say EM effects the bacteria in your filter. If you have a good tank size and some plants that are growing okay I'd say it is a pretty safe choice. None of your plants will be affected by it.

I've got a major case of BGA too, and am considering breaking down and treating with erythromycin.

Does anyone know any other way to treat it? I don't know why I've got it. Nothing's changed in my tank, which has been up, running, and planted for more than a year.

I HATE the BGA. It's nasty, and it smells all swampy - ugh!

BGA (Blue green algae) is not really a type of algae. It's a type of cyanobacteria. I have used erthromycin before and it worked great but I had to move my apistos. I was just wondering because I now have cherry shrimp.

BGA is actually not an algae. It is a cyanobacteria

ethyromycin is an antibiotic. it will kill bacteria. if i remember right, it works best on gram negative bacteria. it should be relatively safe with animals and plants (and protists like algae, but BGA is not an algae). it will not harm N-bacteria. some claim it does and put them in a minicycle, but i think thats just all the dead bacteria you end up with. thats why you should clean as much bga out before you use it.
