what in the world...

This is a weird one..

So I was looking closely at some of my amanio shrimp tonight. One of my bigger ones looks like his stomach is full of little, bitty, white balls. maybe 50-100 of them. The bottom of his body looks like it is opening, but it isn't. I have no idea what it is. He is happy, and eating, so his not sick.

Anyone have any idea what in the world is going on with him?

Wow - I didn't know they would lay eggs in a freshwater tank. Is there a chance they could really be having babies?

Have you tried searching for anything about this topic?

You'll have to spell it right though, so here's a quick search I did for you.

Yeah I think they need a brackish environment actually hatch. There is a procedure on these forums that involves putting the shrimp in a small freshwater tank, then as soon as it lays eggs, put it back in the main tank and turn the small tank into a brackish environment. Not sure if it works though and I'm sure it is more detailed than that.

Not worth the effort.

Good learning experience, but you'll have very high losses.

let's get things clear here.
AFAIK, amano shrimps lay eggs in freshwater streams. the eggs hatch also in freshwater streams. it's the larvae / nauplii that got carried away by the stream into the ocean.

here's a good link :
