10g 65 watts

I have 65 watts of fluorescent lighting over a 10g. Can I grow most plants with diy co2? Is this overkill because I know thw wpg method doesnt work for smaller tanks. Will it bother the betta fish currently living in it? (btw, I'm not gonna start a fire)

Is it compact flourescent?

That's a ton of light over a 10g. Algae will love it. IMHO, you'd need very consistent pressurized co2 to have success. I have an AH Supply 36w kit over a 10g, and algae lets me know quickly if I have a co2 or flow problem

Ok thanks, I'l lgo for 39 watts. Yeah, its spiral compact flourescent. But it doesn't have a proper reflector like your ah supply. I'll post a pic later to show how it was done

Well, I don't have much experience with the spiral CFs, so maybe someone with more experience with those can chime in. I hope you find the right balance for your tank. Looking forward to seeing pics and the progress of your tank

Yeah. I'll probably get pictures later today. But I was wondering if I start with the 65 watts and then I notice algae growing, if I can switch down to 39 and not have algae problems.
