Dosing NPK

I tested my water using API test kit, and it read 20+ ppm for Nitrate. Even I did not dose Seachem Nitrogen, the reading is constant high for Nitrate. I think it is from fish poo and fish food. It is a planted tank with fast grow stem planted, like rotala, HM, glosso, downoi.

Do I still need to dose Nitrogen? If not, do I need to dose Flourish Phosphorus? Fish food contains Phosphate too. I tried to use API test kit to test Phosphate, but it seems not very accurate.

Is this a low tech tank? (no CO2, low light etc)...
What dose your plant leaves look like, all healthy?

A little NPK isn't going to hurt anything. You'd know the plants will have enough.

Nitrates may not be declining as fast as you expect if other nutrients are limiting (light, Co2 and potassium). Bumping those up will increase plant metabolism and reduce your nitrate and phosphate levels.

My tank is a small 5G ADA mini-S. I have the high light, high tech tank with CO2 injection. I does enough amount of K. But my photo period is only 6 hours. I should increase that to 7 or 7.5 hours.

I have some amano and punkin shrimps in my tank. I am holding up the Nitrogen does now to avoid further increase of nitrate which may harm my shrimps. But I am still dosing the Flourish Phosphorus. Should I also stop the Phosphorus along with Nitrogen until the Nitrate back to about 10-20 ppm?
