16 Gallon Tank.

I just bought a 16 gallon long tank as an upgrade for my male Betta (he was in a 5.5 gallon previously). The tank is currently cycling at the moment but when it's done I was wondering if I can stock it with the following animals:

8 White Cloud Mountain Minnows.
3 Otos
6 Cherry Shrimp
1 male Betta
1 Olive Nerite snail

Should I decrease or increase the numbers of any of the above animals (other than the Betta of course)? And does anyone have any suggestions for any other animals to add?

Also I have read some conflicting opinions about keeping male Bettas with females. My male is very placid (runs from his reflection more than he flares at it) and it would be nice to give him a girlfriend or two but only if I can be sure that they wont hurt each other. Does anyone have any experience with keeping male and female Bettas together?

As for plants. I've been thinking Java Moss, Java Ferns, Pellia, some Xmas moss and maybe some variety of Anubias.

Depends on the betta mine is in my 55g community tank and he don't bother anyone, he does defend if they mess with him but hes a good fish.

NO female and Male Bettas together they call them Siamese fighting fish for a reason, the will kill other males, and females. Female bettas can be kept together but males must be kept Single from females and other males.
