Fluval Spec III

Does anyone know offhand what is the wattage equivalent of the LED light on the Fluval Spec III?

I have no clue. What I from experience with a Spec 3 is that it can grow low and some medium light plants.

I've had success with
Anubias
Java Fern (grew slowly but was a juvenile)
Staurogyne Repens (grew well once it got established)
Bacoba Carolina (spelling) Grew fast once it crossed a specific height so make sure you have a tall plant to start with.

That's all the knowledge I have.

FYI. A Finnex Fugeray 10" should fit the tank front to back, but you'd have to modify the lid a bit for the clips to fit.

The reason I ask is because I purchased the Fluval Compact Fluorescent 13W and it is burning the plants. I believe it is just too much light for this size of a tank so I am thinking of going back to the stock light and seeing if the plants do better.

I contacted Fluval and their support staff told me 1.86 Watts. Far lower than I was expecting. Not sure how well the plants are going to do with that.

Can anyone suggest an aquarium light that would be suitable for the Fluval Spec III? 2 watts per gallon ideally

Here's how the plants are doing and you can see why Im trying to adjust some things

Anyone have some input?

Currently going through a similar thing here...

I noticed from your pic that one plant is in the middle/top of the tank which could be blocking some of the light from reaching the bottom. It's probably not going to make too much difference though.

This is quite an old thread... have you found a solution to the problem?

I'm looking at getting the Spec 3 (spec III) but I'm not sure what plants could manage with the stock light. Did you get a different light or stick with the stock light?

All the best,
Rad91
