Where do you find ammonia for your fishless cycle

I'm struggling here on something that will probably be the simplest part of the cycle for me. I live in the South East US and have been to Publix, Walmart, Loews, Home Depot, CVS, Walgreens, Dollar General, and probably more. All of these sell ammonia however all include surfactants which I read should not be used. Is there anything else that can be used?

Where else can I go? I'm running out of patience and most importantly stores.

Hey ,

make sure it is pure ammonia, no additives or scents. You can double check by shaking the bottle and if it foams , it's no good.

You can find bottles at any hardware of grocery store.

If you don't feel like you're getting the right one , you can go on amazon and get Doctors foster and smith's ammonia. It's a little bottle that they say it pure and meant for cycling.

Yep, Ace is the place. Just make sure it has no additives and no foaming a mentioned above. Janitorial supply stores should carry it as well.

Can also toss a frozen cocktail shrimp or two (depending on tank size) in the tank and as it decomposes ammonia feed's the bacteria.
A pinch of fish food every other day or every two day's does same thing.
As it decomposes,ammonia is produced.
Just sayin,,there is more than one way to begin nitrification process.
Silent cycling with lot's of plants also work's.

The Ace is 10%, very cheap, and they sell quarts (a gallon would do a century worth of tanks). If you haven't seen them already google fishless ammonia calculator cycle or some such, and there are calculators that give you exactly how much to add to change ppm by a fixed amount.

Greaser84 - how is the zforce ammonia working? I bought a bottle but it was foamy and I thought it had surfactants in it. If you don't see any issues, then i was wrong.
Thanks,

While this costs as much as a gallon of ammonia, you don't have to worry about strength or additives since it's is specifically for cycling tanks. I got it from Doctors Foster and Smith, Ammonium Chloride Solution by Dr Tim's Aquatics for $1.99. The 2 oz bottle claims to treat 1200 gallons.

Quote:
Directions: Add 1 drop of solution per gallon of aquarium water to achieve an ammonia-nitrogen (NH3-N) concentration of 2 mg/L-N (2 ppm). Do not exceed 5 mg/L-NH3-N in the aquarium during cycling. Use an ammonia test kit to monitor your progress.

Ace hardware

Ace hardware janitor's strength ammonia 32 oz $2.49
This bottle has let me cycle these tanks (and keep some cycled tanks going when there were no fish):55g, 20g, 7g, 12g, 2g, 3G, 10g. And I still have nearly half a bottle left!
duck tape, syringe holder and needless syringe not included at store, that's my addition ^^
Attachment 358506

This stuff if just ammonia, no additives. Anything with other chemicals listed on the bottle besides ammonia should be avoided (if it does not list what's in the bottle don't buy it) as these extras may harm your beneficial bacteria, flora, or fauna.

Check out [this site] for liter and gallon conversion table on right and ammonia calculator at the bottom, have used it for all my cycles, very helpful page!

Due to photobuckets new bs cost for use of images on forums I have deleted all photobucket accounts. I apologize if you enjoyed or found my photos helpful.
