Lots of debris sticking to stem plants

Hi,

I've had this problem for a little more than a week now. A lot of debris gets stuck to the fine-leafed stem plants. It's not algae as I can easily shake it off, and the otos don't touch it. But it makes the plants appear brown and I'm betting it hinders their growth too. What's causing this and how can I fix it?

Add more flow to the tank. Your plants should be waving around enough to keep it for accumulating.

If it is actually debris, then clean the filter, it is probably getting full. This will create more flow, too.

I had a similar issue with a newly planted tank using aquariumplants.com amazon substrate. I was directed not to over rinse the substrate. Then after set up I had this dust constantly flowing around tank and building up on leaves. I would gently knock it off the plants every day or two for about a month and continued with gravel vacuums as best as I could in between the plants. It eventually stopped. Now tank is crystal clear.

Bump: I also doubled the mechanical filter media and changed every 4 or 5 days.

Bump:

Thanks for the replies. It's probably the filter and/or the flow since I rinsed the substrate for ages until the water was clear. I just cleaned out the filter and changed most of the mechanical media. If it doesn't clear up a bit I'll get a powerhead with higher flow~
