African Puddle Biotope Ideas?

I am setting up a 10 gallon for Nothobranchius rachovii. I want to make an African puddle biotope, similar to below, and make it really comfortable for killifish...

I currently have ADA Aquasoil Amazonia as the substrate, about 2" deep. I would add a 1" layer of peat on top of that. I would probably fill the tank with branch wood, a few rocks and a surface full of floaters to block light and be plants and stuff.

I noticed there are tons of grasses and stuff around these puddles. How could I replicate this? Any specific plants that could grow submerged and poke out of the water a bit? **Note that I will add salt but not enough to bother plants**

Should I add any sort of leaf litter on the bottom? Any other ideas to properly replicate the nothobranchius habitat? This isn't intended to be a planted tank, I want to replicate their habitat as close as possible -- just to do something cool and different, I know killies will live and breed in a cup.

Sounds like you should make a riparium....

Bump: Great idea, by the way!

Anyone have suggestions? I want to keep it an aquarium, 100% filled up.

Would banana leaves be good for this tank? Would that make egg collection from the nothos a lot more difficult or would it not matter much?
