What is the best low tech ground cover plant w/ no co2 or ferts.
I need ground cover in a 25g shrimp tank.

dwarf sag is a possibility for you

but it can take over pretty easily

Dwarf sag is very resilient. If you are using soil or MTS as a base, you could also grow DHG (slowly), glosso, or java moss (works well with shrimp).

I wish my dwarf sag would take over. I have one crown that I put in a year ago. It might have gone from 2" blades to 3" blades during that time. Meanwhile, my crypts and anubias are showing better growth.

Bizarrely, my month-old downoi is really starting to fill in with low, bushy growth and provides me better "ground cover". It has become one of my new favorite plants.

I agree with the dwarf sag suggestions, I've grown it in high and low light. It tends to get taller in higher light; that's just my observation. It is highly invasive though, and will tend to jump any barriers you try to put in it's way in a quest to take over the entire tank. I cull and sell it to a local fish store when it gets too thick. I stick a few jobe's plant spikes around its roots and off it goes.

I would go with moss. Just lay some rocks spaced out a bit with moss on them and eventually you'll have a green carpet. I don't think the shrimp will mind a bit.

Thought about this as I have some already in the tank but it's VERY slow growing....

any carpeting plants grow in gravel?

Yeah, thus the LOW maintenance. Anything that grows fast will not be low maintenance.

Monte Carlo is a nice low tech ground cover.

Perhaps I didn't understand.
I didn't ask for low maintenance ?
I said low tech. IE: no ferts or CO2.
Growth speed is not really a concern, only the lack of.
Was hoping for something low tech that will grow at least at a medium speed.
