Short photoperiod

Since my fish tank gets 50-60% ambient light during the day can i shorten the light photoperiod at night?lets say 4hrs/night. The reason i ask is because i am having a bit of a hair algae problem.

Tank info:
75gal gal high tech heavily planted
ei dosing
odyssea t5ho light fixture(5hrs/night)

Sunlight is very powerful so I think the better plan would be to block the sunlight from getting into your tank so much.

My tank is right next to my windows as well do I had to cover the back of it and should recover the sides. My biggest problem though that I just realized like a doofus are my canister hoses are filled with algae because I forgot to block them from sunlight as well.

I've kept my tank lights off for a month to get rid of algae and it works. It really gives the plants a bad time, but it gets rid of the algae to where you can actually clean whatever is remaining out with ease & keep it clean with a short bit of daily maintenance.

1 month ??? Isn't that a bit extreme ? Nice carnivorous plants though...
