Crape myrtle bark okay for tank?

Our crape myrtles are shedding now. Is the bark any good for fish tanks? I plan to boil it beforehand.
Crape myrtles are softer wood trees, I think. They shed their bark now and then, so I can get loads if I want.

Wood is very hard, lasts several years in aquariums. Minimal tannins (at least in the wood I got, which had been pruned a month or two before I got it, and lying around in the sun and rain)
My Loricariads ate them all. Bark is OK, but so thin I think it will break down faster.

I don't care if it breaks down quickly... I'm trying to add a bunch of leaf litter and that sort of stuff to the bottom of the tank. This seems like a good way to do it without filling my water with tannins.
