what does this mean?

So I am at week 3 on my tank cycle and here are my stats :

ammonia 1.0 ppm
nitrite - .50 ppm
nitrate - 15 ppm

I'm not to good with knowing how the start up cycle effects each numbers. Do these numbers tell you guys anything? (other then the usual)

does it say how my cycle is coming along...

You want 0 for amonia and 0 for nitrites. Your cycle should be complete after that.

It tells me that your cycle is not yet complete.

ha,ha. i know that much.

I was referring to where the numbers are now - does that "mean" anything. (some people know how to interpret where the cycle based on those numbers. ie : things going up, down, etc...)

It doesn't mean anything to me because I don't have a prior refrence point. You didn't state what your numbers were say 2 weeks ago or one week ago. Considering you are into week 3, I would guess that you have around another week or so.

You starting this tank with a brand new filter?

It means that your N-bacteria colony is establishing. Reading nitrItes means that you do now have a colony establishing of the N-bacteria that convert ammonia into nitrItes. The nitrAte reading means that you also have the N-bacteria that convert nitrItes into nitrAtes present and working in the tank. However, there are not enough yet in either colony, or else those readings would be 0ppm.

Is that what you were looking for?
