tree fern slab

Has anyone here used tree fern slab in their aquarium as a medium to grow anubias, java fern and java moss. What i have in mind is fill a corner of my 75g with tree fern slabs (though my original plan was to use a corkboard but it can get pretty pricey) to create a wall of anubias, java moss and java fern. But what bothers me is how long can tree fern slabs last submerged in water and definitely it will stain the water. So any suggestions/advises/opinions is highly appreciated.

thanks in advance
