Hydra are pretty easy to figure out. They look like anenome's. They can either be stuck to something, or free floating and they have tentacles. Gouramies are known to eat them.

Yes, and if you touch the tentacles they will react to this. They reproduce very quickly so it is important to get all of them out of the tank as quickly as possible.

I have found that manual removal is possible by using a small air line tube either connected to a syringe or just run into a bucket. A small amount of H202 squirted on them like what is done for BBA) will also kill them.
