lilly pipe at night?

So all of the ADA books say to lift the lilly pipe at night 1/3 above water to add air to the tank. When I do this I get a loud slurping sound. Is this normal? The sound really bugs me, is there a way to avoid this/ Can I set it where the pipe just comes up a little bit, enough to add air, but not large enough to slurp?

Also how do you get the suction cup off and on easily every morning and night? I'm using a pair of tweezers now to "pop" it off, but I don't want to harm the glass - any suggestions -

thanks!

They go in the middle of the tank .

How do most people do this ? and do most people with ADA lilly pipes do these every night?

I'm trying to cycle my tank - does this help the tank cycle? (some say it does, something about the air mixing into the water and activating the good bacteria...)

Pop it off the lily pipe and slide it to the corner. If this is the 25 gallon in your sig, what is that like 6-8" from the middle to the side?

That is how I get the suction cups off my tank. Or you could get a sewing pin and slide it underneath the cup.

It's not - its the 90p in my sig..

You can't just slide it to the corner. That doesn't work. There is a light stand, and tubing issues. That's not what Amano does. I believe you just raise it up. Besides - how would moving it change anything about how the water "slurps" going though it?

The suction cups on my Lily Pipes have a little tab on the edge that allows you to pull the cup off very easily. The 'slurping' sound is normal (it is water after all). The outflow actually sucks water into the top part and expels from the bottom part. If I don't raise mine at night, sometimes I'll raise it for a few hours in the morning while I get ready for work.
