Assuming the wood is aquarium safe,
I'd probably try to remove every bit of salt from them. Rinse as much salt as you can off and then boil it for couple hours, change water and boil again, repeat until you think its safe

Theres certain woods which are not aquarium safe though. I forget which ones. You can do a search on the web unless someone else knows

I have been told by a company that sales driftwood that if it comes from saltwater then it is not safe for a freshwater tank.

He who angers you, controls you!

Hi Messyroadkil, Did you ever end up putting the beach drift wood in your tank?? How did it do? How did you prepare it before putting in aquarium. Di any fish stress out?

-Juan-Carlos

Ps. I'm thinking of collecting my own wood this coming weekend so any info would be great.

Ive collected a few chunks of wood from a creek by my house, what Ive done is place it in a rubermaid tub and left it to soak for a few weeks, Id change the water in the tub every few days and would test the water.
now for doing this with wood from a salt water source. I would let it soak and test the salinity levels you can pick up a hydometer for about 6 dollors, I would let the wood soak till the hydometer did not show any salt, now a thing to remember is that the reading off a hydometer will change with the temp of the water.
hope this helps

Sound good, Yeah I'm sure the salt water wood has to soak for a long time the best way to test salinity is with a Refractometer but they are $$$ the cheepest ones go for like $55.00 and the regular ones go up in the$150 range heh not worth it for just wood water testing lol I have Reef aquariums so I got one ;P I'll give it a try.
