When a plant is available with roots or bulb which is the preferred to get and why?

Bulb with roots... if thats not avail
just bulb as this provides a good food source for the plants

bulb with roots is better because then you know the bulb is healthy and sprouting.
when you buy plain bulbs, theres always the chance that it could be a dud...though with reputable plant retailers this isn't as common. usually when you buy those packages at petco/walmart with 6 bulbs in a blister pack, half of them don't sprout. but, that's wal-mart quality for ya
