Best places for info on sumps?

A good friend of mine just bought his first house and needs to move his 90 gallon reef. Being that I am a good friend, and it's fairly close to me, I figured I would help.

His sump is on it's last leg, it's acrylic and not very thick so he wants to replace it. I figure I could help him find more info as he never really set it up with much thought. At the same time, I wanted to learn for myself for a possible future tank.

I have searched around the net a bit but find myself getting a bit more confused than anything else. Maybe I think they are more complicated than they should be. Just wondering what resources are out there, especially for custom made sumps. He will likely just buy something off the shelf but I am interested in learning more than just what to buy.

I would look up some videos on youtube. There are plenty of people with custom sumps that like explaining how and why everything works.

^ +1... lots of DIY sump builds on youtube. ive built a few myself over the years and its a lot cheaper then an off the shelf unit. another plus to a DIY sump is that you can customize it to your specific needs. you dont have to make do with whatever it comes with.
