my water is really hard but ive read vals like harder water.
my problem is they start developing white deposits on their leaves and i have read that algae can colonize these deposits.

is there anything i can do for this without lowering the hardness?
my fish need the hard water. it doesnt bother me so much it ust gets annoying cleaning it off and i dont want the vals to be overtaken. thanks.

Tank specs, please. Calcium deposits often result from a biogenic decalcification in a setting of low CO2, so some form of injection may be helpful. It need not be on the level of pressurized systems, either, just enough to get CO2 above equilibrium levels.

And your vals are adding to the hardness of the water as they stripoff the stuff they need, raising the pH. (someone check me on this, it is counterintuitive, I reasoned through it once, now I'm not sure)

ive read about this too. how does it happen?
now this makes me want to replace them even more.
do they really mess with water parameters? how do they raise
ph if they are using bicarbonates. it seems like it would drop instead. thanks
