Unidentified hitchikers

I have plants growing out of my rocks!
I bought some lace lava rock from a local rock yard, and now after a month or so in my tank, plants are sprouting from them!

It is definitely a stem plant, and it is growing, a couple of the plants (there are at least 5) are onto their second set of leaves.

Anyone know of a stem plant from the northwest that would decide to sprout in tropical temps?

Most any terrestrial seed that stuck to the rock will germinate readily when submerged in lukewarm water. Unfortunately, the aquatic environment will kill them quickly too.

yep, i agree, looks like a terrestrial seedling. try to pluck it out and put it in a pot of dirt.

Something like that happened to me once, I left it alone and it turned out to be Alternanthera reineckii. I guess u should try it until it dies. You can't lose.

I'm not a doctor in real life but I play one on this forum

I guess I'll pull a couple and put them in with my basil.
The rest can live or die in the tank

They are probably nothing special, but I'm really curious!

i agree, the plants that are most likely to take hold in a rock are probably weeds. but still, why let it die if its so easy to save it?
