need help on what to put inside an eheim 2215

I got a used eheim filter 2215 and I was wondering what filter media I should use for the filter for my 35 gal. planted, community fish tank...

should I use carbon ? i heard it might take out the nutrients needed for the plants...

the person I bought the filter from also included these circular, hollow white medium thats about 1" long...what is that and should I or can I re-use it? its wet in a zip lock so I assumed that he used it for his former tank...

and where can I buy medias online for eheim? thank you

ITS NEVER ENOUGH!!!

The best media to use is what Eheim recommends for the Classics.By all means, use those ceramic rings,(Ehfimech),in the bottom of the filter as a course pre filter.Next use the course blue pad, then Ehfisubstrat ,and finally the white fine filter pad.It is best to forget about the carbon with planted tanks.

You will find the best deals on filter media on E-Bay,or just shop at big Als.Eheim media is widely considered the best on the market.
