What kind of light? How long is it on? I have several lights that are over 20"s from the substrate, but then I have some that are 10". Really depends on the light, plants, etc.. My low tech has some tall Hygro that I try to not keep directly under the light or else this happens, try to move the light a wee bit forward and raised it 3"s.

I ended up building little riser blocked which bumped it from 17" to 21" above the substrate.

Light is finnex planted plus 48"
its a low tech tank with no co2 or excel.
very light ferts and heavily planted with a full stock.
its on 8 hours a day
