Ammonia and Amazon Sword

I thought I saw some information about sword plants, (echinodorus amazonicus in particular) after newly being planted, indicating that they contribute to the ammonia in a tank for a short period. I can't find the thread. I have used the search on the site and I did get a couple of threads when I started to type this message, but still to no avail. Can anyone direct me to that thread? Or just give me some information about the possibility of this occuring? I may be completely off base too. "Oops" is the 4 letter word I use the most.

Thanks

Howard

they melt sometimes in new environments. Maybe the dead leaves contribute to the NH3?

Thanks for the reply. None of the leaves of that plant show any sign of wilting or spotting or any other negative thing.

But I do have a bunch of dying marsilea stalks that I cut back to near substrate, but did not want remove any more so as not to damage the new growth just eminating through the substrate.

I had purchased the marsilea along with other plants and the marsilea all died. I was going to pull it out and take it back to the supplier when I noticed that there was new growth around each dead stalk.

I'll try to remove more of the dead material rather than wait any longer.

Thanks again!

Howard
