I have both lilaeopsis (spelling?) and hairgrass. I like the hairgrass looks better but they seem to spread slower and need more maintainance to make them look neat. I only manage to grow them with very high light though.

Well my hairgrass grows much faster than my lilaeopsis . However, my hairgrass is a target for staghorn and hair algae, where the lilaeopsis only gets a bit of brown film on it once in a while (which my otos gladly munch off). I've seen both used to create wonderful foregrounds. All depends on the look you want.

i used e. tenellus and e. quadricostatus in my old apisto tank.
the tenellus is great for the foreground. it grows pretty fast too
and sometimes developed brown algae but otos keep them clean.
just be aware that it spreads pretty quickly.
