Cool does the TDS reading in my tank mean anything ?

I tested the TDS in my planted tank and they were at 630 ppm. I don't really understand TDS, but I read an article from Tom Barr forum , and some one was stating there TDs were at 200ppm. Anyone ?

Everything that goes in the tank contributes to TDS from tapwater, fish food, fish poo, fertilizers, water conditioners, some substrates, etc.
200ppm would not be too bad ,but some species of fishes/inverts may appreciate lower number.
Good maint routine (ie) water changes ,not overstocking, overfeeding, regular cleaning of filters will help greatly.

If you are fertilizing the TDS increases accordingly but that's quite a jump from 230ppm to 630ppm. If it's only ferts, then it's 400ppm of fertilizers!! which I doubt it so I'd presume it's a build up over time of everything, ferts, other minerals and organics produced by fish. The result tells you you may need to do way more water changes on this tank to keep the TDS closer to the tap water you have plus any fertilizer added which you should reduce by a weekly large water change if not used up to get the value back at the start of the week.
