What Would You Do

So I was wondering what ya'll would do in this situation.

A person bought a product from me and then at the last minute decided they didnt want it. Shipping had been paid for but the item had not yet been sent. I refunded the money for the cost of the item but kept the shipping fee as it was already used along with the money for the paypal fee. This person was not satisfied with this and filed a claim against me and lied about it saying nothing about the transaction being canceled only said they didn't receive a product.

Would you have handled it the same way?? Or was I wrong??

Without knowing more, I'd say you did alright.

Was it an auction?

If the claim was with Paypal, good luck there. They scammed me out of $200...

So they paid for the item, then decided that they didn't want it after you had already paid for the shipping? Then you absolutely did the right thing, why should you have to eat the shipping costs just because they changed their mind?

Is paypal going to give them their money back?!?!?!?!?!?!

I was paid last week and told them I would ship out on Monday. Sunday evening an email was sent to me (which I didnt see till Monday morning) saying they didnt want them and that if I had sent them they were just going to flush it. So I figured Id keep them and refund the money for the cost of the item. The claim was filed with in 2 days after the shipping day.

I would have to say you are right too. The buyer should have notified you sooner than a few hours before you were going to ship. Most businesses would handle this in the same way as you have if the shipping label has already been printed out and paid for. I would send paypal a copy of the email with the date and time sent along with any other ones you may have for this sale.

If you kept the messages you two used to conduct this deal then you can post them with the names deleted so we can get a complete picture of the situation. you should have kept this as record (PM and emails) especially with important transactions such as this. They records are proof you can use to base your case on and clear your bad name.

Can't you apply for shipping refund up to 2 weeks after you paid for it especially if you did not use it and paid for it online?

I will not judge until I see/hear both sides of this two person deal.

I hope it all works out for the best, especially if you are not at fault.

Unfortunately the case has already been 'settled' and because the buyer stated they didn't receive a product instead of saying the transaction was canceled and a refund wasn't give (like what happened, sorta) I was forced to return the sipping cost.

I do still have the emails but do not wish to post them online as I dont want the person to be known and if they were posted the person would be known.

Im not sure about the refund with the label. It was printed out at the post office not by using paypal.

post the name
people like that, that cost a person money need to be outed.
I agree whole heartedly that if shipping was paid for prior to the cancelation then that person owes the shipping to you.
Im assuming its more than 3-4 dollars in shipping anyway.
if your out 30 dollars on shipping i would be irate.

i'm going to say that you are in the right of this. the major thing though is that he filed a complaint under the wrong pretenses (item not received instead of order canceled) this is the major thing about it. if you really want to reopen this i would say you could win it with the emails between you two. also how much was shipping?

Paypal allows appeals. If you think you can win it, go for it.

Ask not "What Would You Do" but "WWJD."

I respect this, but ask that you leave this person appropriate feedback.

Hard question, considering you can cancel the shipping label and get a refund. Takes about 3-4 days to see the credit appear.

Paypal will look at it this way, He paid for an item + shipping, canceled order which wasn't shipped.

I dont see you winning this one.

Edit

Just saw this:

So you paid at the post office and didnt ship right then? Odd.

I dont believe you can get a refund on postage.

If that transaction was through this site leave the member appropriate feed back.
