I have a 75 gallon heavily planted tank with 3.6 watts per gallon and co2 injection. Does 6 ml iron a day sound like a lot? What do do some of you dose?

Thanks,
Ken

I use Flourish, and Flourish iron and dose 5ml each a week in my 90gal. 6ml a day in a 75 sounds a bit high to me, are you getting any staghorn or beard algae with that much iron?

I've been dosing about 2mL of *Flourish* iron 3-4 times a week in my 75 gallon, with 220watts of PC lighting/CO2 injection.

No major algae issues.

I Haven't been doing that much. I was just curious if anyone does that much. I have been dosinbg 5 ml Flourish twice per week and about 3 ml iron per day. The only algae I have is some green spot on slow growing plants. I was just wondering if I should up it? As of a couple of weeks ago I was hardly dosing iron at all as I was afraid of algae. Ever since I have been adding 3 ml per day the amount of pearling has increased significantly.

How do you guys possible know how much iron ken is dosing. He hasn't specified what brand fert he is using. 5ml could be anything: 5 mls water? 5 ml molten iron? The concentration is critically important.

I see in the 4th post that ken might be implying fluroish iron...but nowhere did he do that before.

So anyway, we know now that you doing fluorish, is the other 3mls fluorish iron?

You get a pretty good amount of Fe in the Flourish you are dosing.
If you are dosing Flourish Iron as a supplement it is best dosed on a daily basis for best results.
For the tank you describe, I would start with 10 - 15 mls at water change and the same at mid-week. On all the other days start with 1ml./day and see how the plants respond.
Unless you have plants that need a lot of extra Fe it may not even be necessary to dose extra. I have a ton of Crypts. and found that 1ml./day made a huge difference in their color, the crispness of the leaves and stimulated growth that I hadn't seen before.
All this is assuming that you are dosing N, P and K as well for a balanced regimen. If not, the odds are you are going to have problems.

I also does 5 ml Flourish 2x per week. How should I work this in?

Iron seems difficult to dose as test kits are not that great from what I have heard. As I mentioned above, I have been dosing 3 ml iron 7 days a week with no algae issues and the plant look better. I borrowed my friends Lamotte handheld computer where you get a digital readout of iron ppm and I still have never hit .10 ppm. I could add 5 ml Flourish at night and get a reading of .07ppm iron in the morning anf then test in the evening and the iron level is 0.00 ppm.

For clarification: Dose 15mls. of Flourish at water change and 15mls. more at mid week.
In addition, dose 1ml. of Fe on the days you don't dose Flourish. Then watch the plants for their response and adjust from there.
