Fertilize the water column?

I looked in the Glossary for "water column" but it wasn't there

What does this mean?

"So just fertilize the water column and be done with it"

This term refers to the water that is inside the aquarium.

Water borne ferts might be an equal term.
It's just the ferts which are mixed into the water as opposed to those in the substrate
such as from root tabs.

The shortest distance between any two points is a straight line...in the opposite direction...

Seems like it would be easier to say 'fertilize the water' but when in Rome...........

Thank you both ;-)

Well, you have columns LOL. Beginning with the substrate. But at the same time I dont see anyone saying the substrate column.
