Fluval stratum for shrimp for betta?

Hey guys.
I am trying to replant a 5.5gallon betta tank and the plants keep uprooting because there is not enough stratum. I know Bettas like a higher Ph. So would this FLUVAL STRATUM FOR SHRIMP that lowers Ph be OK dor my Betta? I would go for the normal green bag FLUVAL STRATUM, but my LFS does not carry it at the moment. I also do not just want to top off the FLUVAL STRATUM I have in my aquarium because on the package, it says on the package to never mix FLUVAL STRATUM with other substrates. According to others, topping off FLUVAL STRATUM causes it to break up.
THANKS!
