Its really hard to identify a snail based on the limited information you've given. A picture would be your best bet.
However, red makes me think of baby red ramshorn snails, which can be a pest in aquariums due to their incredibly fast reproduction. Common pond snails usually arent red. Neither usually eat plants (tho it DOES happen on occasion). Brigs can be red, but you'd notice a brig egg case for sure.
You're sure the pinholes are snail damage and not fert imbalance?
