help pls .. i have a beautiful Bolbitis heudelotii (african water fern ) on driftwood in a 9.2 gall ( T:26C , ph:6.8 , KH:3.5 , hagen DIY CO2 kit , 11w light , 40-50% h2o changes weekly ) ... its growth has been quite lush over the last 8 weeks , the leaves all look really great ... almost soft ... generally all the plants in this tank look in quite good health - despite the lack of light .....

my main concern is that some of the leaves have started to turn a horrible blackish colour ... esp the edges ...

... any ideas of the most likely cause? i dose the tank weekly with jbl ferropol ... or occassionally with seachem flourish and flourish excl..

any help is greatly appreciated

regards

My be is you see the blackening on the older leaves. My Bolbitus does the same thing, not to worry. Everything should be fine as long as the rhizome is healthy and the new growth is green. I remember reading somewhere that the leaves tend to "darken up" like that in certain conditions. Unfortunately, I can't remember what those conditions are, or where I read it! ops:

Mine did the same thing also. It looked like an algae problem to me (bba) and disappeared once my tank balanced out.

thanks guys ....

have read up on yuor links .. i think it is just the "old " leaves ... have had this piece for a while now and never ever trimmed it .... got the scissors out a few days ago .... trimmed some of the very black leaves off .... WOW ... it seems to have taken on a new lease of life it now looks really lush and green again ....

thanks and regards
