WHAT IS THIS THING? argh

Hey guys, I have this weird white dirty stuff on my plants. I have a 23 gallon tank. Medium light condition. pH 6.8. Ammonia 0. Good water flow.
Does anyone know what the heck is this thing? and how do you get rid of it?

Firstly, Welcome to the forum!!!!

Looks like algae to me. What do you do for Co2 and ferts? What do you call "medium" lighting? How powerful and how long are they on every day?

I use DIY yeast CO2. Lighting is only 30 watts. I put 12 hours of light on each day.

Ok, do you have a gas separator on your DIY CO2? If that yeast gets into the tank, it will cause a nasty looking mess. Been there and done that. It wont' hurt the fish or plants, but should be cleaned up.

Do you have any way of measuring the CO2 levels? You want a good consistent level, this will go a long ways towards fending off algae growth. Something like 2 2 liter bottles with alternating new mixtures in one bottle every week would work well.

Secondly, I'd just put the lights on a timer for about 8-10 hours a day. More than that can lead to algae problems.

Do you dose any ferts? The plants would benefit from some nitrate and phosphate dosing more than likely.

Hmm the problem was there for like 2 weeks. It's getting worse. Can you show me what a gas separator is? I was thinking if it was the yeast too.
How do you do " ferts"? Do I have to dose some product in? I dose "Leaf zone " made by API.

This is the very best article written on DIY CO2

Here is a good place to learn about fertilizers.

www.rexgrigg.com is a great site to read around, also barrreport.com is another great forum to read through.

I tried to brush it off, but it didn't come off. So I used my fingers to pull one of the longer string off. It kinda.. attached to the plant.. I had to pull hard to take it off... ( almost took the plant off the gravel)
