Driftwood Prep

Happy Friday all.

I recently purchased 2 pieces of driftwood. I've submerged them in water for 2 days already. Since day one, it has already sunk to the bottom of the bucket. I've used fairly hot water as well, but I havent noticed any tannin s being released into the water. Everytime I change the water, it is still fairly clear. However I have yet to boil them.

After I boil them, would it be safe to put them in my tank? Or should I still wait a week?

Many thanks!

Boil them once or twice for a few continuous hours and you should be good on the Tannins front. Just to be sure, some purigen wouldnt hurt either!

i notice when you soak it in a solution of salt it doesnt release as much tannis as with just regular tap solution. so im gona be soaking mine for about a week changing the water everyday then the last few days a saturatrated salt solution to kill any buggers that might be left

if no tannins are coming out now, there are none in the DW. Just put it in the tank. Boiling it for a few hours would be a huge waste of energy.

Do the salt first so that no salt will be released into the aquarium

Thanks for all the straight forward answers. I guess I'll give the DW a good boil tonight, and slap them into the tank. should i do another bucket with dechlorinated water prior?

it's ok, it's just sea salt. but i'll give it a good rinse with the pressure washer, then strap some moss to it and throw em in the tank.
