Planting foreground..tips?

So I have real bad experience with planting a foreground plant. I've started with 7 pots of HC. I've separated them by stems and everday it flaots to the top of the water surface. Is there anyway I can improve my experience, i really want a nice carpet ?

What type of substrate do you have? You need a substrate with a little weight to it to hold the stems down.

What type of fish do you have? Are they knocking or uprooting it?

I used two bags of Eco Complete.

I do have 4 Cories (2 Sterbai , 2 Trilli ) They like swiffer the substrate alot.. then my Rams like to pull on the HC for fun. What can I do to prevent this? I don't have another tank to them in - and I want to grow a carpet.

The cories are the culprit then. If you don't have another tank for them then your options are somewhat limited... Maybe you could try growing the HC with substrate in a shallow pan of water under good lighting then just transfer the whole thing over? Or grow it emersed and transfer it over?

I'm kind of new to plants, and was wondering what does emersed mean?

Emersed means growing out of the water- the roots and some of the stem will be underwater but most of the leaves will be out.

This means that you are not growing the plants under water; instead, you remove the water and provide them with a (very) humid environment.

Tom Barr started a good thread with this, it's 17 pages of reading, but very good information:
