Doubling mech

Is it ok to put 2 sponges in my aquaclear HOB? I took the carbon out but what to replace with?

I think another sponge would be fine. I took the carbon out of all my filters and replaced them with filter floss, but I dont like it that much and plan on using something different in the near future. It will be interesting to see what other people use , great question

I've ran some of my Aquaclears in the past crammed with nothing but foam inserts. (typically 3) They work well as both mechanical and biological media IMO.
