What color background do you think looks best for a planted tank?
Do it with paint or film?

I have always used black. It is bought from a fish store - quite common. I just like the look of the green leaves against the black backdrop.

I also use black. I'd maybe use a pictured background, but it seems like cheating so yeah.

I like black also...

I buy the thick poster board at WalMart and cut it to size.

Always paint it on. Black for freshwater, a dark blu for reefs.
Actually painting tomorow.

black for me. Dont paint it on though use a black liner, you may scratch the face of your tank and want to turn it around and then you will have to remove the paint, not an easy job.

Not if it's a bowfront .

I painted mine. No glare or double reflection. Even color. Don't have to worry about something getting between the background and glass. Looks much better, imho.

I too get black foamboard and cut to size. This way its a matte black, so no reflection off the back wall.
