Quarantine Tank

what do you guys do with your quarantine tanks when you have no sick or new fish? obviously you could simply empty the tank, but then the next time you need it running and healthy, its not cycled etc...

so how do you manage?

I toss my clippings in the quarantine tank until I find a way to get rid off them

I keep a fish in there to keep it cycled. Better than looking at an empty tank...

I always clean the filter and put it on one of my other tanks and store the quarantine tank till I need it again. Usually the filter is seeded already by the time I get new fish. Never had to quarantine a fish for illness. (knock on wood)

I keep my quarantine tank planted and running with a few small fish at all times. As tends to happen, my "quarantine" tank became a permanent tank it seems. Oh well, one can never have too many really.

If you don't want to keep a tank running, sponge filters are great choice. Keep the sponges in your cannister filter (if you have one) when you don't need them. When you get new fish, take the sponges and use them until the quarantine period is over. Boil the sponges and pop them back into the cannister until you need them again.

-keep seeded media ready for my QT tank (ATM I have a small corner filter in there so it's pretty easy!)

-once I start stocking my 90gal I'll keep a 20gal QT/hospital tank going at all times, and I'll probably keep some danios in it to keep the cycle up and running.

I use plastic plants so they can be easily sterilized. I may start using live plant clippings but I'll definitely destroy them after I'm done QT the fish...
