do I want to keep this paddle-wheel thingy

Hey guys,

I just did a major re-vamp of my tank, and I'm wondering if this paddle-wheel thingy from my HOB filter is something I should keep? If it's messing my my ferts then I don't want it, or do I for other reasons?

maybe important background info is that the only livestock I have (and ever plan to have) in my tank are algae eating snails.

Thanks, Todd

The bio wheel is a very efficient way to grow nitrifying bacteria. This is very important in a fish-only tank.
It is optional in a planted tank, especially with just snails.

It does not remove fertilizers.
It may reduce the CO2 by allowing more to leave the water when it is exposed to the air.

I would say it is optional for your tank, probably not needed.
