Hi everyone newby here!! I'd love to know what this plant is and also this cichlid

I have just recently gotten this floating plant for a lady off kijiji and nether of is know what it is. Also I inherited a cichlid tank and I have a fish that keeps digging holes and renovating my tank. I've read that this is a mating ritual and I was hoping to maybe get him a female!

I looked krib up and the fish definitely doesn't look very colorful like the ones shown. Would my fish be a female then?

That fish looks like a pale Melanochromis auratus, an aggressive cichlid from Lake Malawi. The females are yellow.

The fish will likely color up a bit once it gets comfortable. Most fish are fairly drab until they enter breeding condition.

This would be my quess as well. Is that a hap moori in the back? comparing the two sizes is not exact in a picture but the sizes of the two would make me think the front one is too large for a krib. I might guess that the fish was purchased out of the "assorted cichlids" tank at a shop. That is where melanachromis are often found. They often make a very nice looking fish when young as they have very bright horizontal stripes in yellow and black. But they also become absolute killers when mature. They are one cichlid, I will never own again.
