I recieved some java moss via mail order. It was in a tight cylindrical bunch with a lead on the end. I removed the lead and tied it as is with fishing line to an ornament. Now I'm wondering if I should have "spread out" the bunch first? I'm afraid if I do it might come apart and make a mess. Suggestions?

My experience with Java Moss is that you should not tie it on with too many layers. The best way is to seperate it out and tie it on in a thin layer. What happens if you tie it too thick is that the bottom fronds die and turn brown.

Thanks for the reply. I guess I'll try to spread the clump out a bit. Since it's already tied hopefully it won't all come apart.

Spread it out quite a bit, and it will evenually fill in.

The nice thing about java moss vs riccia is that moss will 'attach' itself to the wood and rocks and such. The bad thing is eventually it starts to wind itself through out the other plants in the aquarium. It can be a beautiful plant, and I love the look of it, in other people's aquariums.

Aquascape? I'm a crypt farmer.

It's a fine line between fishing and standing on the shore looking like an idiot.

That IS an aquascape, it's titled "The Vacant Lot".
