Sump suggestion

I really would like to have a custom made sump, but I am not paying more for my sump than the tank.

I have around 48x22x18 area to work with. Does anyone have any suggestions? Would I be better off to just buy one of the pre-built ones? I would like it to have filter socks, but I am open to suggestions.
