Good general freshwater aquarium and fish keeping book?

New to fish keeping and I was wondering if there's a good introduction to freshwater book I could look into that's accepted as an industry standard for beginners?

You're honestly better off just reading this forum and the sticky posts. If you have questions post them up as there are many wonderfully knowledgeable and helpful members here.

You don't need books. Books for this stuff are a waste of time. If you have a question, Google it instead of searching through 300 pages of a book.

here is one book no one would argue isn't worth reading
unfortunately, i've yet to read it myself since most of my reading is programming related... but it is on my to do list.

I think the general disdain for books in this hobby is because this hobby moves quick. it's similar to web technology in that knowledge and technique can be vastly improved upon month to month.

so finding up to date relevant information in a book may be difficult.

If you've any questions, please feel free to ask in the relevant sub forum. Also please be aware that most of the folks here are not professionals... and their opinions may be near worthless.

Here is a book I found very helpful for getting started with general fish care:

The simple guide to freshwater aquariums

by Boruchowitz, David E.

You can get an older edition used on amazon for really cheap.

It's a good idea, so you can get all your info in one place when setting up an aquarium.

There is hardly anything about plants in it though.

The Walstead book mentioned earlier is also great, I recommend it at well.
