Question: Where is BB from the cycle kept?!

once i notice my nitrites climb and my ammonia drop I am assuming the cycle is well on it way. If i wanted to do a WC 30-40% would that remove all the good bacteria I am working for?! at this point would it be in the filter?

please advise

BB cling to surfaces. So they will be on the substrate, rocks, DW, and glass. Most will be housed in the filter as they are Aerobic and love the moving water. Less than a percentage will be free floating, so a water change won't affect the cycle.
